Vision

Our vision is to introduce modern design methods and tools in combination with applied artificial intelligence for reducing CO2 emissions. The methods and tools should be of use for bridge engineers at authorities, conslutancies and contractors and puch the use of Ai in the daily Design tasks of the construction sector.

Set-based design is used to teach Ai algorithms. Ai supports the bridge engineering process. The artificial twin of the engineering process supports the design with analysis and feedback

Sustainable design and production planning

A challenge for the construction industry is the fact that the sector is responsible for one third to half the global environmental impact. At the same time, the European competitiveness is growing, as international construction companies have entered the Swedish construction market the last decade. Public agencies responsible for the national transportation system and the related infrastructure are in great need for addressing sustainability in their work with upgrading and renewing the transport.

A pilot - Sustainability driven building design based on Artificial Intelligence

Pilotprojektet bygger vidare på resultatet av fyra Smart Built Environment projekt som pågår eller är avslutade, samt ett VINNOVA projekt. Projektidén bygger vidare på ett av de vinnande bidragen i Naturvårdverkets tävling Transformativ infrastruktur. Byggindustrin står för ungefär en tredjedel av den globala miljöbelastningen. Den europeiska marknaden för byggindustrin växer och konkurrensen för svensk byggindustri blir allt mer påtaglig. Behovet av att ta itu med hållbarhet och ökad konkurrenskraft har drivit fram en innovativ projekteringsmetodik som på ett öppet sätt inkluderar hållbarhetsaspekter. Ansatsen är banbrytande och kunskapsutvecklingen avancerar och stärker svensk byggindustris konkurrenskraft.Syftet med detta pilotprojektet är att utveckla och exemplifiera möjligheterna med maskininlärning och Artificiell Intelligens (AI) för byggprojektering. Metodiken gör det möjligt att optimera den tekniska lösningen med avseende på hållbarhetsaspekter och byggbarhet på ett integrerat arbetssätt av specialister.

IABSE - Sustainable Structural engineering - Task Group 1.7

The purpose of the task group is to review and internationally define ongoing research on the structural design process. A special attention will be given to buildability and sustainability as well as the structural engineer’s role in the building process. The aim of the task group is to transfer new methods and processes from research to the structural engineering profession. A desirable profile for the TG is to be a platform for discussions that is attractive for young engineers. Novel methodologies such as set-based design and performance-based engineering as well as integrated design will be studied and discussed.
